TUSCA - FEBRUARY 2009:  a 8 year old Labrador Retriever whose "day job" is a drug dog for the Wake County Sheriffs office.  Tusca was diagnosed last September with a  Bilateral Carpal Hyperextension (injury to the wrists) after jumping from an overpass while chasing a suspect.  Surgery was done on the right wrist at that time, and the hope was that the left side would heal without surgery.  As time progressed, however, his injury worsened and surgery on the left wrist was needed.

Picture Not Available CLYDE - FEBRUARY  2009:  is a 1 year old Bull Terrier who became acutely lame last December.  After some initial difficulties in determining the cause, radiographs revealed a possible old femoral head fracture.  Orthopedic surgery was performed ( a Femoral Head Ostectomy) and Clyde should return to normal function quickly.

SCOOT - MARCH 2009: is a 5 year old terrier mix who was giving birth when one of the puppies got stuck in the birth canal.   Without surgery Scoot would not have survived.  A C-section and hysterectomy was performed and Scoot has made a complete recovery.

HAILEE - MARCH 2009:  a 6 year old Pug diagnosed with a mast cell tumor.  Hailee had an initial bout with mast cell cancer about nine months ago that required surgery and radiation.  A second tumor was recently discovered on her leg, requiring surgery and follow-up chemotherapy.  Financial assistance for Hailee's expenses is being provided by the Zach Memorial Fund.

KOLBIE - MARCH 2009:  a 14 week old Boxer diagnosed with a condition known as Persistent Right Aortic Arch.  This is a serious birth defect that inhibits the growth and function of the esophagus, thus restricting food passage to the stomach.  Without surgery this young pup would not have made it.  A portion of the support for Kolbie's surgery was made possible through a grant to Ashley's Angel Fund from the Build-a-Bear Foundation.

JAY - APRIL 2009:  an 8 year old Greyhound who has lymphoma.  He is a retired racing greyhound and his owner tells us he is sweet, gentle, and very polite.  He sleeps about 20 hours a day and spends the rest of the time snuggling or going for walks.  He was diagnosed with lymphoma and thanks to the help from the Zach Memorial Fund, Jay is receiving chemotherapy and is in complete remission right now.

IRISH - APRIL 2009:  a 5 month old retriever - chow mix year old Pug with severe hip dysplasia.  Irish's owner adopted this young pup following the loss of her service dog to cancer about five months earlier.   She subsequently learned that Irish had severe hip dysplasia in both hips and would require surgery;  otherwise she would have been extremely lame and might in fact have not been able to survive with a pain free life.  A TPO was performed and Irish is doing well.

CHANEL - APRIL 2009: a 5 year old Golden Retriever diagnosed with Mesenteric lymphoma.   With help from the Zach Memorial Fund, Chanel received treatment for the cancer and was stable for a short time; however, recently she lost her battle.

JEZEBEL - MAY 2009:  a 3 year old Labrador Retriever who had a cyst removed that turned out to be adenocarcinoma.  A more extensive surgery was performed to improve the margins around the area, followed by several rounds of chemotherapy.  At this time "Jez" is cancer free and has an excellent prognosis.  As you can see by the picture, Jez's young owners are putting him through some dog training!   The Zach Memorial Fund contributed to Jez's expenses.
